BRAVO, Bo, for reminding Canadians of their well-deserved Magnificence!
And yes, you are spot-on - Canadians have a particular modesty that easily tips into an undeserved "inferiority complex" when we compare ourselves to other nations, other countries, other peoples. And this comes out when Canadians say "we shouldn't be too bold" "we should allow others to lead the way & we should just follow" "others are more powerful than us, therefore we should acquiesce to them" "others know better than us" "we shouldn't risk because we might fail" "we shouldn't take the road less travelled" "we should stay small because that keeps us safe" etc etc etc etc etc etc...
Now here's the other side of that coin:
I am a 73 year old Canadian who has lived across the breadth of this great and beautiful and AMAZING country, and time and again I have witnessed Canadians being way too Canadian-modest about who they are, how magnificent they are, how accomplished they are, how filled they are with the grounded. expansive. intelligent. values-grown leadership. that is so needed in this chaotic suffering world... And it is at this point that I fully acknowledge that hubris lies at the other end of the spectrum of believing in and accepting one's own magnificence, and certainly the American story is a cautionary tale for all of us on what happens when a people stop being self-reflecting and hubris is allowed to run amok. ...
I recently posted on another Substack writing about what "genuine leadership" is.
Leadership these days seems to be all about power-mongering power-controlling power-gathering, but Genuine Leadership is way more powerful, way more growth-nurturing, way more inspirational, way more destiny-fulfilling, way more a creation of deliberate "footprints left on the sands of time" (thank you, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow for that potent metaphor).
So what exactly is Genuine Leadership?...
It is that Empowered (power-from-within) Empowering (opening-others' eyes-to-their-power-within) leadership where a leader moves mindfully, deliberately, focused, disciplined, forward without looking to the left, or the right, or behind to see if anyone is following...
This, is what Sovereign Power looks like, feels like. That is what Sovereign Leadership looks like, feels like, is...
And its SourceSpring comes from the grounded grounding Values of Honour + Integrity + Respect + Service + Giving Back + Gratitude + Humility - all Values that the good majority of Canadians have within, in abundant amounts...
It is time that Canadians stepped up to their Destiny as Genuine Leaders so needed on this suffering chaotic planet threatened by darkness... Canada, & Canadians, exist at this moment in this planet's evolution, for a reason...
And I finish this particular Clarion Call with a quote from a Genuine Leader, an American no less...:
"We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths - that all of us are created equal - is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall; just as it guided all those men and women, sung and unsung, who left footprints along this great Mall, to hear a preacher say that we cannot walk alone; to hear a King proclaim that our individual freedom is inextricably bound to the freedom of every soul on Earth..."

Thank you for highlighting: a woman and a person so directly working with service members - Air Force pilots. Truly one of the most inspiring, accomplished women (persons) I have ever heard of. So well written, on my 3rd listen. Thank you so much.
I knew who she was. Women like her are heroines to Feminist groups. And we learn as much as possible about those who went before us and broke down the barriers so that we can follow in her footsteps!
