Yes most of this is coming from the opposition party where the leader was not able to win his seat during the election but stayed in the house of the opposition leader), confirmed as a leader by only a small subset of party members, won a safe seat after a byelection. How legitimate is that leader and does he speak for the party or the opposition?
And once again we get to the problem facing a majority of Canadians….they have no working knowledge as to how our various levels of government work, who is responsible for what and why, and how the democratic process works within our governmental and legal systems!
We truly need to introduce Civics starting very early on in school and continue over the years increasing in complexity, so that EVERY Canadian knows exactly what their governments do, how they do it and why they do it.
Thank you for the explanation of what a mandate is in a parliamentary democracy such as ours🍁.
Thank you particularly for dumbing it down enough that, hopefully, those who were asleep in their civics class or are confused with a different system of government like the one currently running amok below us, are able to comprehend what an election is and what a mandate means.
However, as my dear departed friend Joy would say when I railed against the idiots who weren't willing to learn and believed they knew it all, "Let it go, Cath. You can't cure stupid."
